— Eighty-four-year-old Clyde Burnette made his second attempt Wednesday to come
from Fayette County to see the National World War II Memorial.
In 2004, "I came up for the
dedication but my heart flipped out on me. I was put in the hospital for
fibrillations and never got to see it," recalled Burnette, a flying gunner
for the Army Air Corps during WWII. He spent 13 months as a prisoner of war in

WASHINGTON
– U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., Ranking Republican Member of the Senate
Agriculture Committee, today praised Governor Sonny Perdue for signing an
executive order to suspend the state gas tax on off-road diesel. The
suspension on the four percent state tax is effective immediately and will be
